St Andrew's Catford The Church of England

St Andrew the Apostle

Sandhurst Rd, Catford, SE6 1XD

Welcome to St Andrew’s!

We welcome you warmly today at St Andrew’s as we celebrate our many gifts and rich heritage in the arts.

St Andrew’s is an Anglican community established 113 years ago. We feel blessed because it gives us

Thank you for coming! You are very welcome to join us at our main parish service for all the family at 9 30 on a Sunday!

St Andrew’s Hall;

In recent years we have worked to refurbish the parish Hall to the rear of the church. Many have devoted countless hours to get the Hall to the position that we see it today.

Now the Hall has been redeveloped to its current state we can offer a great space for people to meet and local groups to utilise and extend their work as well as for individuals to hold celebrations. Please ask if you would like to see it. If you are interested in hiring the Hall then please speak to somebody today before you leave, who will put you in contact with Crystal Callow our Hall bookings co-ordinator. If you have family, friends or colleagues who may also benefit from the Hall please let them know!

Stewardship at St Andrew’s

We are very aware of all that God gives us and feel that we should give generously ourselves in response. We believe that what we give says a great deal about us.

The congregation gives very generously financially to support all the work of St Andrew’s. This pays for the running costs of the church. The details of how the money is spent are listed below:

How the giving is spent

Every month we spend -

These major five costs come to about £39000 annually.

In addition we also give a substantial amount each year to support our three charities. These are currently -

EMBRACE educating and sponsoring children in the Middle East.

MANNA sheltering and working with homeless people in London.

WATERAID trying to provide safe water sources for communities in Africa.

We need you at St Andrew’s!

There are many general roles within the church that need volunteers and provide opportunities to contribute to the life of the church and also receive the feeling of satisfaction which that brings:

Steward (welcoming people at church on a Sunday) (“Stewarding gives me the opportunity to  interact with people as they attend church and I have made some friends in the process. I also enjoy the rewarding feeling I get from being able to put something back.” Brian)

Choir member (Singing is fun… I have no illusions about my singing ability, but the great advantage of singing in a choir is that the effect of the whole is so often greater than the component parts, and the opportunity of singing in a four-part church choir is a privilege which is becoming increasingly rare. We are richly blessed in having a musician of the calibre of Nick Bland to lead and direct our music.” Peter)

PCC member (help make decisions on the running of the church) (“I enjoy being part of a supportive and collaborative team where everyone has different strengths and skills sets but common goals. Our PCC meetings are never dull!” Eleni)

Sunday School leader (help guide our young people during the service on one Sunday a month). (I never thought of myself as a teacher, but St Andrew’s noticed my potential. I am honoured to use the skills God has given me, to help support St Andrew’s, as it has always befriended and supported me.” Kay)

Serving at the altar (“I serve regularly as an Acolyte and Clark.
I love working alongside the serving team, the sense of security and love is beautiful…..
I feel respected and cared for at St Andrews.” Aneesa)

Reading (“Being part of St Andrews is being part of a family. As with all families there is a desire to give and to share. My reading in church is part of my sharing with my church family part of my mission giving and makes me feel included in the church as a whole." Norma)

Leading intercessions (“Leading prayers gives me the chance to think about our relationship with God, and what we think and feel about the world” Neale)

Residential Home ministry (“….really worthwhile experience, we worship, chat and have a cup of tea with the residents” Liz)

There are some new roles as well:

Fundraising online

Supporting St. Andrew’s social media platform

Cleaning the Hall

Opening and closing the Hall

In addition to the ones above, you may have yourself a talent that you think could be useful in church life, or have spotted a job that needs doing and you feel you could take on. Please realise you will not just be left on your own to perform any role; you can get as much help as you need, and if you want to you can work alongside a current helper so that you learn what to do on the job.

If you are interested in any of these roles or offering one of your own please remember to speak to somebody today so your talents can be put to good use and are not wasted. (Don’t put it off!)
